Peugeot has prepared a new Vision Gran Turismo concept for the racing game as a follow up to an older virtual race car introduced back in 2015 for the previous title in the award-winning franchise, Gran Turismo 6, and that's another reason to pick up a copy of Gran Turismo Sport once the game will be out exclusively on the PlayStation4.
Peugeot’s latest machine has not been actually developed from the ground up as it’s basically an evolution of last year’s L500 R Hybrid, which came into being for a specific purpose. Dario Resta behind the wheel of a Peugeot L45 managed to win the Indy 500 on May 30, 1916 when he posted an impressive average speed of 83 mph (135 kph). The concept was created specifically to celebrate the achievement.
Dubbed L750 R Hybrid Vision Gran Turismo, the new concept builds upon its predecessor and adopts a low-slung body sitting on massive wheels backed by sizeable brakes with red calipers. This one too takes the shape of a single seater and utilizes a carbon fiber monocoque structure to keep the weight low. At just 1,818 pounds (825 kilograms), it’s actually 386 lbs (175 kg) lighter than the concept before it.
Not only is it lighter, but the futuristic race car is also considerably more powerful as its combustion engine alone packs 580 hp or an extra 80 hp compared to the 500-hp hybrid powertrain of the L500 R Hybrid. The conventional gasoline engine revs to 10,000 rpm and works together with an electric motor that churns 170 hp for a grand total of 750 hp. A seven-speed sequential gearbox and liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack are part of the package as well and Peugeot says the engine and the transmission have both been mounted over the rear wheels.
As a result of replacing some of the fat with muscle, the new Peugeot L500 R Hybrid Vision Gran Turismo as it’s known by its full name is quicker by hitting 62 mph (100 kph) in 2.4 seconds. It needs a tenth of a second less than the 2016 concept also available in Gran Turismo Sport. The two GT concepts will join more than 150 cars you will be able to race on 17 locations with 40 different layouts.
