How Nissan Engineers Prevent Sun Damage Without the Sun
To evaluate the effects of solar energy on paint and other materials, and in addition to real-world tests, Nissan engineers at Nissan Technical Center in Farmington Hills, use the Xenon Weather-Ometer machine to test paint, interior materials and plastic samples for durability and quality. Engineers observe the material samples through a series of cycles, to investigate changes, and thus to ensure top durability and quality for Nissan Customers. The 4000-watt Xenon bulb can bakes nearly 100 samples at the same wavelengths as the sun, noting that samples rotate around the Xenon bulb to imitate earth’s orbit. On the other hand, the center provides round clock testing, so it takes half the time to test paint samples comparing to the traditional method using natural light!
