مرسيدس AMG إستخدمت أقوى سيارة للسلامة على الإطلاق FIA F1 في موسم 2018 للفورمولا 1، حيث أن هذا الطراز ينتج 430 كيلوواط (585 حصان) وسرعة قصوى تبلغ 318 كم/ساعة، وتعتبر AMG GT R أقوى وأسرع سيارة FIA F1 للسلامة على الإطلاق.
 
وللعام الثالث والعشرون على التوالي، مرسيدس-أي إم جي أمّنت السلامة في الفورمولا 1 حول المسار. حيث أن سيارة AMG GT R  هي السيارة الرسمية FIA F1 للسلامة، مع ديناميكية قيادة سيارة AMG GT3 للسباقات.
 
 
لتجربة قيادة ديناميكية، تتميّز هذه السيارة بمحرك أمامي متوسط مع Transaxle ،V8 biturbo سعة 4.0 لتر، الشاسيه المصمم بشكل متقن، الديناميكيات الهوائية النشطة المتطورة والبنية الخفيفة الوزن.
 
هذه السيارة قادرة على الحفاظ على الحد الأدنى للسرعة لمنع الإطارات والمكابح لمركبات الفورمولا 1 من التعطّل وحصول مشاكل في المحركات. مع سرعة قصوى تبلغ 318 كم/ساعة و3.6 ثوان لسباق من صفر إلى 100 كلم/ساعة، لا تشكل AMG GT R أي خطر من حدوث ذلك.
