Lamborghini’s 63 Motor Yacht Echoes the Company’s Cars

Lamborghini is fortunate to have passionate fans of its brand, which goes beyond just the supercars. The name has been attached to wine, watches, furniture, shoes, and more. So why not something bigger, such as a motor yacht? Well, now that’s part of the portfolio, too. Lamborghini has joined with the Italian Sea Group, a well-known builder of yachts, to produce the Lamborghini 63.

The first 63 were delivered last July. Brett David, CEO of Prestige Imports and a major Miami-based Lamborghini dealer, has already sold four of the limited-edition yachts to South American customers, who will base them in Miami. The price is €3.5 million (US$3.49 million).

Lamborghini historians will recognize the significance of the “63” name. That was the year tractor manufacturer Ferruccio Lamborghini founded his car company in Sant’Agata Bolognese and produced the introductory 350 GT model, powered by a V12. Ferrari owner Lamborghini had allegedly been snubbed by the famously mercurial Enzo Ferrari after calling on him to report some difficulties with his car.

So the 24-ton yacht, developed as part of the Italian Sea Group’s Tecnomar brand, will be built in an edition of 63, David says, and powered by twin MAN 2,000-horsepower V12 engines. The 63 is a 63-foot long luxury yacht, and is capable of, yes, 63 knots. An inspiration for the sleek design was the 220-mph-capable Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, a hybrid supersports car.

There’s some interesting history here. Lamborghini himself commissioned a wooden Riva Aquarama speedboat in 1968, and it was initially powered by two of his company’s four-liter Lamborghini V12s from the Espada model. It was the fastest Aquarama built, capable of 48 knots (55 mph) and the founder kept it until 1989 (though at one point replacing the Lamborghini V12s with General Motors-derived V8 power). “There was a real ‘wow’ factor to that boat,” David says.

David says perhaps five or six 63s will be allocated to the U.S. market, though he hopes for 15. Other strong markets for the boats include Italy itself, Japan, Asia Pacific/Australia, and the Mediterranean region. One customer ordered his 63 with a Ducati motorcycle and a Sián in matching dark green with gold accents. The yachts will be highly individualized. David says that layouts designed with input from Lamborghini’s Centro Stile include twin-bedroom sleeping for four and five, or a version with a living room.

All the furniture and cabinetry are designed to accommodate the 63’s high performance on the water. Carbon fiber, also used extensively in Lamborghini cars, helps to keep weight down and performance high.

“We are proud to see the essence of Lamborghini DNA that today sets out to sail the sea with the same attitude of our super sports cars that race across the asphalt,” says Stefano Rutigliano, strategy director of Automobili Lamborghini.  “This yacht is proof that the shared values and perfect synergy of the two teams are the key for executing excellent projects.”

And according to Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, “Selected owners around the world will own not only the fastest Tecnomar motor yacht in the fleet, but a Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 masterpiece.”
