Nadim Mehanna and his MotorShow team took the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee WL75 for a comprehensive drive in the UAE.

The latest Jeep Grand Cherokee WL, including the WL75 regional variant, represents the most advanced evolution of Jeep’s iconic midsize SUV. It blends modern technology, electrified performance, and off-road capability with premium comfort and design. The WL75 name is commonly used in Middle Eastern markets to denote a well-equipped or high-spec version of the WL-generation Grand Cherokee.

This generation adopts a more squared, muscular stance, while maintaining Jeep's signature seven-slot grille, now more refined and streamlined. Sleek LED lighting, bold wheel options, and a sculpted exterior shape enhance its road presence. Available in both 2-row and 3-row (Grand Cherokee L) configurations, the model is designed to suit both urban and adventurous lifestyles with plenty of space for passengers and cargo.

Inside, the Grand Cherokee WL introduces a premium cabin experience with upscale materials, ambient lighting, and an array of high-tech interfaces. A large central touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and—on select trims—a front-passenger infotainment display create a high-end driving environment. Premium versions may feature ventilated and massaging seats, open-pore wood trim, and immersive entertainment systems, including Amazon Fire TV integration and rear-seat screens. The infotainment system includes wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB-C charging ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Jeep offers both conventional and electrified powertrains. The standard 3.6L Pentastar V6 produces around 293 horsepower and 352.5 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s a proven engine, well-suited for a wide range of driving conditions. Alternatively, the 4xe plug-in hybrid combines a turbocharged 2.0L engine with electric motors, delivering a total of about 375 horsepower and 637.2 Nm of torque. It allows for electric-only driving of up to roughly 50 kilometers, ideal for urban commutes without sacrificing highway or off-road performance.

True to Jeep’s heritage, the Grand Cherokee WL maintains robust off-road capabilities. Depending on the trim, it offers advanced four-wheel drive systems like Quadra-Trac and Quadra-Drive II, along with selectable terrain modes for mud, snow, sand, and rocks. The available Quadra-Lift air suspension enables adjustable ride height, improving both comfort and off-road clearance. Many configurations support a towing capacity of up to 6,200 pounds, making it suitable for hauling trailers, boats, or campers.

Safety and driver assistance technologies are comprehensive. Features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, lane-keeping assist, a 360-degree camera system, and automatic emergency braking. Some trims also offer semi-autonomous driving capabilities and advanced parking aids.

The WL75 version, commonly offered in Middle Eastern markets, usually represents a top-tier configuration. Often based on the Grand Cherokee L platform with three-row seating, it delivers high-end amenities such as premium leather interiors, larger wheels, dual or triple infotainment screens, advanced driver aids, and full off-road functionality. It is designed to meet the expectations of buyers who demand both luxury and performance in regions with varied terrains and climates.

There are some trade-offs to consider. The fuel economy of the non-hybrid V6 models is modest, reflecting the vehicle’s size and 4x4 systems. High-end versions equipped with advanced electronics, air suspension, and complex infotainment systems may require more specialized maintenance. Some early owners have reported software glitches and minor reliability issues, though many of these can be addressed through software updates. Availability of parts and quality of after-sales service can vary depending on the region, which is worth noting for long-term ownership.

Despite these considerations, the Grand Cherokee WL and WL75 remain highly versatile vehicles that combine rugged capability with premium features. They are well-suited for families, off-road enthusiasts, tech-savvy drivers, and those who need strong towing and cargo abilities. The addition of a plug-in hybrid option expands its appeal to more environmentally conscious users without sacrificing the Jeep identity. In regions like Lebanon or the broader Middle East, the WL75 offers a compelling mix of refinement, space, and durability, making it one of the most well-rounded SUVs in its class.
