Nadim Mehanna and his MotorShow team took the iCAUR V27 for a comprehensive drive in the UAE.
The iCAUR V27 represents one of the boldest models yet from the Chery-backed iCAUR brand, positioned as a large electrified SUV that blends rugged styling with extended-range electric technology. Unlike conventional hybrid systems, the V27 operates primarily as an electric vehicle, while a turbocharged petrol engine works mainly as a generator to recharge the battery and extend driving range. This approach allows the vehicle to deliver the smoothness of electric driving without the charging limitations often associated with fully electric SUVs.
From the outside, the V27 immediately stands out with its upright proportions, squared bodywork, and high ground clearance. The overall design takes inspiration from classic off-road SUVs, but integrates more modern details such as slim LED lighting elements, flush surfaces, and a cleaner aerodynamic profile. Measuring just over five meters in length with a wheelbase close to 2.9 meters, the V27 has a commanding road presence while also offering generous interior space.
On the road, the V27 delivers a driving experience that feels distinctly electric. In its dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration, the system produces approximately 449 horsepower and 505 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 5.9 seconds. Power delivery is immediate and smooth, particularly during city driving and highway overtaking, where the electric motors provide effortless acceleration without noticeable delay.
The range-extender system plays an important role in everyday usability. A 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine operates primarily to maintain battery charge, supporting a total driving range that approaches 1,000 kilometers depending on specification and driving conditions. Pure electric driving range reaches up to approximately 150 to 200 kilometers, allowing many daily trips to be completed without using fuel at all. This combination gives the V27 flexibility for both urban commuting and longer regional travel.
Despite its size, the V27 remains relatively easy to drive in everyday conditions. Steering is light and predictable, while the suspension setup balances comfort with enough control to manage uneven surfaces confidently. In markets like the Middle East, where buyers continue to value large SUVs with strong road presence and long-distance capability, the iCAUR V27 introduces a slightly different formula. By combining electric-first driving characteristics with the reassurance of a range-extender system, it offers an alternative to both traditional petrol-powered SUVs and fully electric models.
